Didcot Neighbourhood Action Group

The Didcot Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) is focusing on the issue that local residents have said is the biggest concern to them – anti-social behaviour and underage drinking. The NAG has already organised extra police patrols, licensing checks and extra out reach work for young people in the areas of Didcot identified by residents as hot spots. These include the shops, mound and play park in Ladygrove and the Abbott Road and Cockcroft Road shops. Alcohol seizures from young people who are under age are decreasing however, further work is planned to educate parents about the dangers of underage drinking.

Parents are being encouraged to consider who has access to alcohol in the home particularly around special occasions and parties when people often have large amounts of alcohol in the house. For more advice on alcohol go to www.drinkaware.co.uk. For more information on Neighbourhood Action Groups go to www.southoxon.gov.uk/nagor www.thamesvalley.police.uk/nag

We will keep residents informed of their progress via the Didcot Community Forum and NAG newsletter, which you can find by clicking here.

What is a Neighbourhood Action Group?

NAGs are set up to deal with key community safety issues identified by the community. They are volunteer working groups made up of representatives from the community and local organisations, which problem solve on behalf of the community and ensure tasks are completed. They are also the 'doers', accountable locally for responding to problems that communities want to tackle.

If you are interested in learning more about Neighbourhood Action groups then please go to www.southoxon.gov.uk/nag

How can I help?

You should report any antisocial behaviour to the police by calling 08458 505 505 or use 999 if a crime is being committed at that time.

OR visit the community safety pages on South Oxfordshire District Council's website where you can find more information on antisocial behaviour and report it online.

OR phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111

Are you community minded?

Would you like to be involved in making your community a safer and more pleasant place to live in?  The Didcot Neighbourhood Action Group are actively looking to recruit members who are residents of the town.  If you live or work in Didcot we would like to hear from you.  If you do not already belong to one of the groups already represented on the NAG (we already have members from town and district councils) and could help to represent residents please get in touch by contacting Alison Smith, the NAG Co-ordinator in the first instance:

 - E-mail alison.smith@southoxon.gov.uk

 - Tel: 01491 823054

We are particularly looking for people who have some experience of working with young people and/or have communication or problem solving skills.  However a "can do" attitude and an open mind are the most important skills you could bring to the group.
