Cornerstone in progress

About this site

Futuredidcot.co.uk provides a user-friendly source of information for everything you need to know about progress on Didcot's development.  In response to residents' requests for a website dedicated to Didcot, the community and South Oxfordshire District Council have developed this website together.

Futuredidcot.co.uk gives you an opportunity to find out more about plans for Didcot and have your say on issues affecting your local area.  It is also part of the council's continued commitment to work with the local community, and to consult at each stage of the Didcot's development.

Didcot as a New Growth Point

Didcot was first designated as a growth area in 1979 and is likely to grow by another 9000 dwellings over the next 20 to 25 years. As a result, Didcot's population is likely to increase from 15,000 in 1981 to over 35,000 residents by 2016.

With this rapid growth Didcot has a real opportunity to improve on its local facilities and develop a strong image. South Oxfordshire District Council has therefore entered into a New Growth Points partnership with Government to access much needed funding for this purpose.  As part of this partnership a number of exciting, jointly funded projects are being undertaken in 2007/08.

Some of the projects include:

  • a redeveloped town centre with cafes, bars, recreational and sports facilities
  • development of an enhanced image for Didcot
  • natural green spaces for Didcot
  • upgraded railway station access and forecourt

South Oxfordshire District Council will involve Didcot residents and others with a keen interest in the town in developing proposals that support the housing growth at Didcot and that help make it a vibrant and exciting place to be. This website forms part of this process of involving the community.
